According to the recent data issued by Hitwise (a leader in online competitive intelligence), visits to Facebook have surpassed Google in the week ending March 13th. Facebook after defeating Yahoo had become the second most visited site in US and has been posing threat to the web dominance of Google. Google has been trying its best to fight Facebook but the recent launch of Buzz didn’t really turn things around for Google. Based on how things are currently, it wouldn’t be long before Facebook becomes the next Google.

Have a look at the data from Hitwise to see how Facebook has grown in the last one year. While the market share of Google grew by 9 percent last week compared to last year, Facebook witnessed an increase of 185 percent in visits to the site.

If Facebook had been a country, it was 4th thickly populated country in the world after China, India and USA with more than 400 million citizens.

Given the growth rate of Facebook, it is all-set to become number visited website in the world soon.
