Dear Mian Shahbaz Sharif

Greetings!

May Allah grant you more energy to “Manage By Wandering Around” and set examples of playing in the fore court rather than issuing circulars while sitting in ivory towers of powers. I have never been fan of any political ‘leader’ but lately I admire some of the actions you took against some labs of Punjab that were doing roaring business while poor people were dying of dengue.

You sealed a few labs, suspended a few doctors, went to hospitals and embraced patients, raised voice over negligent staff. It’s okay. Not a big deal. Any Tom, Dick & Harry can do it. Leaders do things differently than run-of-the-mill people. They are not just time-tellers, they are clock-builders. They are not just fire fighters; they understand the cause of fire and then take remedial measures. Firefighting is for grade 16 and 17 officers, not for you. If you indulge in such fire-fighting all the time, you will be making yourself very expensive to the nation. Rise above mediocrity.

Let me suggest what can you do in your capacity. Challenge scientists of the world to create or discover vaccine of dengue and establish a fund of Rs.10 billion to fund this research. You can raise this amount in one quarter by donations and other means provided the nation knows that this amount will not go down the drain. I suggest a few names who can head “Dengue Vaccination Fund” and common people and corporate sector will make a beeline to donate. Abdul Sattar Edhi, Imran Khan, Mushtaq Chapra of TCF, Dr. Ishrat Husain of IBA, Asad Omer of Engro, Moin Fudda of CIPE Pakistan, Shaukat Tareen of Silk Bank, Syed Babar Ali of Packages are few names of known integrity. The list can be much bigger.

What are the other means that you can use to raise billions in a month not in quarters. I suggest the following.

  1. Sell one half of Chief Minister House. No court will take any suo moto notice if the cause is noble. Rest assured you or your offspring will not stay in that house forever. Set an example of graciousness and go into annals of history like a true leader who has the ability to see beyond the nose.
  2. If it is in your domain, sell half of Governor House to private sector.
  3. What is the price of your official cars? Bigger cars no guarantee of safety. Sell a few cars and settle for a less expensive ones.
  4. Reduce perks and salaries of MPAs/Ministers by 50%.
  5. Last but not the least, impose dengue tax on big bungalows and big cars.

Fund of Rs.10 billion can water the mouths of scientists and research institutes in the world. Don’t run after mosquitoes; just use your wisdom, vision and farsightedness (if you have) to make them ineffective by vaccination. Don’t out-run mosquitoes. Out-wit them.

My prayers are chasing you.

Yours truly

Ashraf Chaudhry

P.S: Nowhere I suggested that you donate a few bucks from your own pocket. But you can. Are you not one  of the most blessed Pakistanis?

    bravo!!!

can I ask something ? y dont we do something on our own ? our leaders are pathetic human beings but we selected them didnt we ? Can I ask how much you donated ? you are earning thousands of rupees from your workshops how much you spared for the people in need ?

    • @Tania

The thing is that writing a letter like this is the biggest Donation of ashraf sahib.

We and our all politicians are same. This is the reason why we are in trouble, accountability of yourself on your own can cure this disease which is eating our system.

  • Dear Ashraf,
I feel that in the form of Dengue Fund you have given them another area to reap money from the nation and fill their bank accounts.
Asking them to sell half of Governor house, they will sell all the building including Parliament house and then the next year give new contracts for construction of new Governor house and other buildings at double or quadruple the price.

Rather than these fabulous dreams, I am willing to settle if they can just fumigate the cities with effective insecticide (not just kerosene smoke). Don’t let the mosquito breed and Dengue is finished by itself.

Even after numerous requests to city government, we are still waiting for the spray vehicle to pay a visit to our area.

Someone needs to explain the content of this letter to Mr Shahbaz Sahrif. A summary from his office would be required. So Ashraf you need to find a contact who will speak this CM’s staff officer and tell him exectly what CM needs to listen too. Perhaps the whole official machinery in Punjab is in “Fire Fighting Mode”!

  • Sohail_bhatti

A very good suggestion. Mr. Shabaz Sharif should be listening to thi.

Excellent suggestions..I am all for it..forming a Fund,,appointing one of the righteous persons as Trustee..and cutting down expenses, using smaller cars..maybe even selling some extra land/ building …this will defintely go a long way in history to make Mr Shahbaz Sharif earn a place in people’s hearts. All said and done we must not undermine his efforts to take action at least like a grade 16 Officer..fire fighting as such.
Look at his counterparts in Sindh…any sign of any one who is someone on the desprate state of milllions pf flood sufferers? Any sign of any one from the people who matter on the situation in Karachi? The mother and sone who were killed in yesterday’s blast…did any one bother to console the berieved family?

I feel, he did not accomplish a remarkable deed… He exactly TRIED to do for which he was elected and being paid by the pocket of a poor country.

Sorry to say but I hate who get themselves in camera while merely performing their jobs. Still we have 70 billions in benazir income support fund what the hell will this amount do when our people are died in flood.

Mr. Ashraf Choudhry, I don’t know to what extent it is possible to act on these suggestions but this thought-provoking article points towards the fact that by slashing only a few of luxuries (our ruling class is enjoying) to half, many of our problems can be addressed effectively. Well done

  • sir why they will use rupees 10Billion for dengue research. or bhi dukh hian zamanay main daingi kay siwa. actually i think dengue gave them a good chance to show their politics.
